Sydney based pâtissier Adriano Zumbo and his successful chain of pâtisseries across Sydney had Melbourne sweet-tooths drooling over the news that this enterprise was making its way to their neighbourhood. Zumbo is the real life Willy Wonka. As soon as you walk into the shop, you suddenly feel like you’ve entered an imaginarium of colours, zany flavours and whimsical gateaux that look like intricate ornaments. There is so much creativity and fun injected into this place, even his cookbooks attest to this theme of a wonderland of magical desserts with unlikely yet interesting flavours.
For anyone who may be unfamiliar with Zumbo, you may have tottered past his DIY recipe range available at your big brand supermarkets ranging from brownies to his coveted macarons (should you dare to attempt them). You may have seen a myriad of delicious sounding TimTam flavours popping up with his name printed underneath. You may have even witnessed contestants on Masterchef over the years breakin’ the sweats to reproduce his masterpiece: The Croquembouche.
Besides the various macarons on display that range from eye-catching flavours such as fingerbun or salted butter popcorn, one item to look out for in particular is the unique spin on the cronut (a croissant-donut hybrid): the zonut. The flavours change every week so there will be something that is bound to tantalise any dessert lover’s tastebuds!
