Who would’ve thought that tucked away in the ‘burbs of Malvern is a pâtisserie like no other. We did a total double take when we saw that glass cabinet populated with pretty little gâteaux all lined up in a row. This was no ordinary everyday cake display. The most perfectly glossy domed tarts that came in flavours of salted caramel, cherry ripe and chocolate hazelnut, neatly whipped passionfruit meringue tarts tickled with rose petals and don’t even get us started on the cruffins.
When we asked about where all these heavenly delights came from, a member of staff mentioned Alice Wright, the in-house pâtissière and owner of the cafe and pâtisserie . Alice trained at Le Cordon Bleu in France, specialising in pâtisserie and came back to Melbourne to open up her very own shop selling her creations. Good move Alice, good move. The pastries on display are just a testament to how boss she is at making them - the custard (AKA crème pâtissière if you want to French it up) is to die for and the aesthetics of the space are bright and inviting.
